print of original illustration - Tarsier in pencil.
Tarsiers are primates of the family Tarsiidae. Once more widely dispersed, all of its species are now found only in the islands of southeast Asia. Characterized by their enormous eyes (in some cases as large as, or larger than their entire brain!), elongated fingers & tarsus bones in the feet, these carnivorous animals are built for climbing & leaping through trees in the forest - feeding largely on insects, but also birds, snakes, lizards & bats. They are nocturnal & spend much of the day sleeping on vertical branches. They are solitary & extremely shy. All species of Tarsier are considered endangered & vulnerable to extinction.
